I love this picture because Phil looks so silly standing next to his new board. At the beginning of this week I took a few days off. I hung out with Phil and Zac, and did nothing but surf. It was super fun to get to hang out with friends for a few days and relax. I think that relaxation is vital for our spiritual, physical, and mental well being. Too often people ask me, “John it seems like you sit around and relax a lot.”"If God gives such attention to the appearance of wildflowers—most of which are never even seen—don't you think he'll attend to you, take pride in you, do his best for you? What I'm trying to do here is to get you to relax, to not be so preoccupied with getting, so you can respond to God's giving. People who don't know God and the way he works fuss over these things, but you know both God and how he works. Steep your life in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions. Don't worry about missing out. You'll find all your everyday human concerns will be met (Matthew 6:29-31, The Message).
I relax not because I am lazy; I just want to be fresh when high energy moments come around, and when those big decisions have to be made. Take a rest and let the world go on without you for a few minutes, God will provide.
Accept,
John Denton
(Paul wrote to Timothy about a few guys who relaxed a little too much (1Timothy 1:19, The Message) and started to miss the point)
